When A Small Construction Project Turns into A Large One: Why It Isn’t Always A Bad Thing

Many construction projects start out small and required for maintenance purposes or small disasters like floods or mold. Nonetheless, by the end, they have turned into full home remodels. Sometimes, the original, negative reason for construction can turn positive, as happened with this construction project.

The original plan was just to restore the upper floor deck to its original state. Both an architect and general contractor were involved on this construction project, due to strict code enforcement requirements. Once the deck was completed and the homeowner was satisfied, he decided to remodel the rest of the property. The home remodel included: rebuilding two additional decks, exterior window replacement, and exterior door replacement. Original stucco was kept on the building and ground down to take the new smooth color coat.

At the end of the day, this construction project, which started as fixing code enforcement issues, ended as a fully remodeled show house. Just because something negative happens, like flooding, mold, or another issue that would lead to construction, does not mean that you cannot turn it into a positive. Often times, it is cheaper and more convenient to complete other construction projects, especially ones that you have been putting off, simultaneously.
